The data displays the average nominal annual premium for basic insurance under the Dutch Health Insurance Act (Zvw) per person from 2007 to 2018 (in euros). In 2018, basic health insurance in the Netherlands would on average cost 1,378 euros per year per person. This, however, is not the same as the annual premium paid. Some people can receive a discount, due to a collective insurance or taking on a voluntary excess (in Dutch: vrijwillig eigen risico) in exchange for a lower premium.
The Dutch health insurance system combines elements of public and private insurance.
