The data displays the gross government expenses on the Dutch Healthcare Insurance Act (Zvw) from 2016 to 2018, by type of healthcare (in million euro). In 2018, the Dutch government expects to spend a gross sum of approx. 5.8 billion euro on primary care. This is a slight increase when compared to 2017. In the Netherlands, every resident or employee is obliged to take a basic health insurance to cover medical costs from, for example, visits to a general practitioner or the hospital. The Dutch government decides on the cover provided by this package and health insurance companies are obliged to accept everyone who meets the requirements, regardless of age or state of health.
