The data displays the number of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) units in selected (OECD) countries per million inhabitants as of 2016 (or latest year available). In 2014, there were approx. 51.7 such devices per one million inhabitants in Japan. Thus, Japan was the country with the highest density of such devices. MRIs are used to make pictures of the inside body structure and of organs. It is used both, for diagnoses and for monitoring of certain treatments.
