Between 2013 and 2015, 18.1% of male respondents had doctor-diagnosed arthritis in some form, while 23.5% of female respondents had doctor diagnosed arthritis. Arthritis is a leading cause of disability and a common chronic condition in the U.S. Common forms of arthritis include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, gout and fibromyalgia. The U.S. spends an average of 81 billion USD on direct medical costs for arthritis annually.
