Prevalence of doctor-diagnosed arthritis among U.S. adults by body mass index in 2013-2015

The data shows the prevalence of doctor-diagnosed arthritis in the adult population in the U.S. from 2013 to 2015, adjusted for age, by body mass index. From 2013 to 2015, 16,4% of the survey respondents in the underweight/normal body mass range indicated that they had a doctor-diagnosed form of arthritis; while, 27.7% of those in the obese body mass range had been diagnosed with arthritis. Arthritis is a leading cause of disability and a common chronic condition in the U.S. Common forms of arthritis include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, gout and fibromyalgia.
