The data shows the percentage of U.S. adults that have known someone with Lyme disease as of 2017, by region. According to the survey, almost half of respondents from the Northeast stated they had known someone with Lyme disease, compared to 20% of respondents in the Midwest. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks to humans. If left untreated, Lyme disease can affect the joints, heart and nervous system.
