The data shows the percentage of U.S. adults who practiced select prevention measures against ticks and Lyme disease as of 2017, by region. According to the survey, 94% of respondents in the West used some sort of preventative measure to avoid ticks and Lyme disease. Comparatively, just 48% of respondents in the West indicated that they used insect repellent. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks to humans. If left untreated, Lyme disease can affect the joints, heart and nervous system.
