The data displays the percentage of US population with a social media profile from 2008 to 2018. In the most recently measured period, 77% of U.S. Americans had a social media profile, representing a 3% decrease compared to the previous year.
According to estimates, the number of worldwide social media users reached 2.34 billion and is expected to grow to some 2.95 billion by 2020. On a global level, the market leader is the American social network Facebook, in fact the first social media platform to surpass 1 billion registered accounts on both its desktop and mobile versions.
