As of the fourth quarter of 2016, Facebook and YouTube had an equal penetration rate in Canada among social platforms. Facebook Messenger and Twitter followed, with 45 and 37% reach, respectively. It was found that in early 2017, the majority of Canadians accessed social media via smartphone. Twitter was the third most popular social network website in Canada, based on mobile share of visits.
