In 2016, free-to-play MMO games were estimated to generate 1.9 billion USD in North America. In total, the global online gaming revenue is predicted to grow by 16 billion USD between 2011 and 2017. Based on 2016 revenues, the three leading F2P MMOs that year were unsurprisingly League of Legends, Crossfire and Dungeon Fighter Online. At the same time the top P2P titles were World of Warcraft, Westward Journey Online II and Lineage I.
