According to the preliminary figures, the organically cultivated land area in Northern Ostrobothnia was projected to amount to over 35,000 hectares by the end of 2017. The corresponding figure in the region of Lapland was forecasted to total to a little under 3,000 hectares. In Finland, cold winters limit crop production potential but decrease the need for pesticides. Due to rainfall during summer months, irrigation is needed only occasionally.
