The data shows the volume of the alcoholic beverage market in the UK in 2015, by type of beverage. As shown on the graph above, over half the volume of the alcoholic beverage retail market is made up of beer at 17.3 million hectoliters, followed by wine at 7.5 million hectoliters. In terms of consumption, the market for alcoholic beverages in the UK is centered around beer, which makes up the majority of sales in both the on-trade and off-trade, although more so for the former. The share of alcohol sold on-trade, however, has decreased over time in favor of the off-trade, likely due to increased prices as a result of tax.
