The data shows the percentage of consumers in the U.S. and Canada who paid for premium channel subscriptions in the fourth quarter of 2015. According to the data, over 61% of those surveyed responded they did not pay for any premium channels. Of those who did, almost 23% paid for HBO and nearly 16% paid for Showtime. Thanks to the huge success of shows such as Game of Thrones, Westworld, and Veep, the number of HBO subscribers has increased in recent years from just under 40 million in 2010 to 49 million in 2016. As a result, the network's subscription revenue has also increased from 4 billion USD in 2012 to 5 billion USD in 2016.
