U.S. cobalt imports Approximately 15% of U.S. cobalt imports are from China and about 16% from Norway. Cobalt imports into the U.S. totaled about 11,500 metric tons in 2015. Exports accounted for about 3,900 metric tons in the same year. The biggest cobalt deposits are found in the DR Congo, Canada, and Australia. Cobalt is primarily produced in the DR Congo, which produced 63,000 metric tons in 2015, in comparison to Australia’s total production of 6,000 metric tons.
