Overall, there were 5.2 thousand fewer male deaths than excess female deaths. From winter 2000 and 2001 to winter 2013 and 2014, the coldest winter was 2009 and 2010 when the average temperature was 3.2 degrees Celcius and there were 25,810 excess deaths.
