The data displays the number of primary school children enrolled at an educational establishment in Northern Ireland from academic year 2000/2001 to 2016/2017. The figures showed a year on year decrease to 2010/2011, and year on year increase since that date. In 2016/2017, there were 181,302 primary pupils enrolled in Northern Ireland, the highest number during the surveyed period. Overall the number of pupils had increased by 0.5%. By comparison, the number of secondary pupils has been declining by almost 10% during the same time period.
