Glasgow had the highest crime rate, with 1,574 incidents per 10,000 inhabitants. Dumfries & Galloway came in third at 1,260 crimes reported per 10,000 inhabitants. When compared to the number of crime incidences in England and Wales, Scotland had a higher rate of offences designated as 'vandalism'. As well as a higher rate of 'violence' offences, while the number of theft related crimes in England and Wales were higher than those reported in Scotland.
