The data displays the employment rate in the UK from 2000 to 2017. The rate is the percentage of people in the population who are employed. After steadily rising from 2000 to 2005, the employment rate started to decrease before dropping by 1.7% from 2008 to 2009. The lowest rate of employment was recorded in 2011 at 70.3% of the population. From 2011 onwards, figures have been increasing, with the rate of employment peaking at 74.4% in the last year. By comparison, the monthly employment rate between January 2014 and December 2016, shows the share of the employed population to be rising by 2.
