The data depicts the market share of the fifteen leading insurance companies as of 2016. AG Insurance held the biggest market share in 2016, with a share of approx. 22% in the total Belgian insurance market. The second and third biggest market share was held by respectively AXA with a 12.5% market share and Ethias with 10%.
In Belgium, all employees and self-employed must register and make contributions to one of five free health insurance funds or mutualities (in Dutch: mutualiteit or ziekenfonds, in French: mutuelle): Christelijke Mutualiteiten; Socialistische Mutualiteiten; Liberale Mutualiteiten; Onafhankelijke Ziekenfondsen and Neutrale Ziekenfondsen.
