The data displays the youth unemployment rate from 2000 to 2017 in the UK for 18 to 24 year-olds. Although there were five year on year decreases (2000 to 2001, 2003 to 2004, 2012 to 2013, 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015), the overall trend was upward. Starting at 10.6% in 2000 and ending 1.1 percentage points higher in 2016. The biggest increase came from 2008 to 2009 with a jump of 4%. These findings were also reflected in a different survey on youth unemployment of those between the ages of 16 to 17. In the last 16 years, youth unemployment for that age group had risen by 26% for males and 21% for females.
