The data shows the number of female Members of Parliament (MPs) in the UK from 1979 to 2017, divided by the political party they represented. In 1979, the earliest year recorded in this statistic, the number of female MP's was 19, of which 11 belonged to the Labour Party. From 1983 to 1992 the total number of women in parliament gradually increased from 23 to 60, the amount then doubles to 120 in the aftermath of the 1997 General Election. The biggest number of female MPs over the period was recorded in 2017, with 208 in total.
