In 2015, the number of smartphones sold worldwide reached a new high, with about 1.4 billion units sold. In the same year, a quarter of the world’s population had access to a smartphone, as the global smartphone penetration rate passed the 25% mark for the first time. At a steadily increasing rate, smartphone penetration is estimated to grow to around 35% in 2019.
