The data displays the annual number of overnight stays by overseas residents in the UK from 2004 to 2017. Following a period of decline, figures have been rising over the last five years. In 2017 around 284.8 million nights were spent by visitors from overseas. The number of visits to the United Kingdom by inbound tourists has also increased over the same period. The data is based on interviews with passengers arriving and departing from the country and includes visits for all travel purposes.
