The data displays total consumer spending on pets and related products in the UK from 2005 to 2017. In 2017, expenditure rose to approx. 4.62 billion GBP. This is an extreme increase in consumer spending when compared to 2005, when only 2.55 billion GBP were spent.
Spending on veterinary and other pet services also increased in 2017, with figures showing 3.5 billion GBP were spent. This is an increase of just over 2 billion GBP when compared to 2005. In contradiction to this, the total number of pets that live in the UK has actually reduced since 2009, with a drop of around 15 million.
