Global wood pellet production has steadily increased from about 2 million metric tons in 2000 to some 28 million metric tons in 2016. It has been projected that wood pellet production in Western Europe alone will reach 13 million metric tons by 2020. The importance and the growth of the wood pellet industry in Europe are apparent.
