The data shows the global production of wood pellets in 2016, in selected regions. During this year, North America produced almost ten million metric tons of wood pellets. European markets accounts for a large portion of the demand for and production of wood pellets.

Wood pellet marketPellet fuels are comprised of compressed organic matter or biomass material such as industrial waste, food waste, and energy crops. Wood pellets are the most common type of pellet fuel and are generally made from compacted sawdust. The EU-28 were by far the world’s biggest producer of wood pellets, producing some 14 million metric tons of wood pellets in 2016.
