In 2015, the U.S. produced some 37 billion cubic feet per day of shale gas, making it the world's biggest producer of shale gas. It is projected that in 2040, the U.S. production of shale gas will be 80 billion cubic feet per day. Currently the only countries commercially producing shale gas are the U.S., Canada, China, and Argentina. Mexico and Algeria are expected to begin commercial production by 2030 and 2020, respectively.
