The data shows global hydropower generation in 2017, by leading country. During this year, Russia's hydropower facilities generated some 179 terawatt hours of energy. China is the leading country in terms of hydroelectricity generation, capacity and number of new developments.
Hydroelectricity in BrazilChina and Canada lead the world in hydropower generation in 2017, totaling 1,195 terawatt hours and 403 terawatt hours, respectively. In the same year, about 9.1% of the total hydropower energy consumption worldwide occurred in Brazil.
