The data depicts the worldwide mine production of iron ore from 2012 to 2017, sorted by country. The mine production of iron ore in the U.S. reached approx. 55 million metric tons in 2011. Until 2017, the annual production decreased to estimated 46 million metric tons.

Iron ore are rocks and minerals that can be heated in the presence of a reductant to extract metallic iron. Iron and steel industries worldwide are reliant on these sources for primary iron material. A large majority of mined iron ore is then used in steelmaking.
