The data depicts the spending of smart grids in the U.S. from 2009 to 2016, by segment. In 2012, 2.6 billion USD was spent on smart metering. Smart meter deployments accounted for most of the country's grid spending from 2010 to 2012. Many smart meters were installed in 2010 and 2011 due to stimulus from funding given out in 2009 which was employed by many of the biggest utilities.
