The data describes the municipal solid waste (MSW) throughput for waste-to-energy production in the U.S. from 2001 to 2014. In 2005, waste-to-energy facilities totaled 29,783 tons of MSW throughput. The majority of facilities use a mass burn technology to combust municipal solid waste without pre-processing.
