The data describes the % of municipal solid waste (MSW) managed by waste-to-energy facilities in the U.S. in 2016, based on the leading states. During this year, Maryland waste-to-energy facilities managed 23% of the state's total MSW. The majority of facilities use a mass burn technology to combust municipal solid waste without the usually necessary pre-processing.
