The data presents the total number of cash withdrawals made in the UK from 2001 to 2016. Over this period of time the number of cash withdrawals increased overall from 2001 up until 2012. Since that point the number of cash withdrawals from ATMs in the UK have been falling. This could be seen as a direct result of the rise of card payments, especially in regards to the ease of use of low value contactless card payments being seen in the UK. There were approx. 2.73 billion withdrawal transactions at ATMs in 2016, while the top for this period came in 2012 with over 2.
