The data displays the total amount outstanding in overdrafts from the UK high street banks from December 1997 to December 2017. it can be seen that the highest amount of overdraft lending still outstanding happened during the financial crisis of 2008 where almost 10.1 billion GBP was outstanding in overdrafts. Since then the amount has fallen to just over 6.5 billion GBP as of December 2017.
