The data illustrates the change in the money supply M2 in the euro area from 2001 to 2017. The money supply is the amount of monetary assets available in an economy. M2, called the "intermediate money" is the sum of M1 (currency in circulation and overnight deposits), deposits with maturity of maximum two years and deposits redeemable at notice of maximum three months. The value of money supply M2 amounted to approx. 11.2 trillion euro as of December 2017.
