The data displays the relative use of contactless payments by consumers in the Netherlands in 2015 and 2016, by age group. In 2016, the relative use of contactless payments in total POS payments by 55 to 64 year olds was 0,7, which meant they made 30% less contactless payments compared to the average consumer in the Netherlands.

NFC payments were introduced in the Netherlands in 2014 and mainly involves contactless payments made at points of sales, with either a debit card or a mobile phone or payments via QR codes. These methods are supported and developed by Dutch banks, such as ING and Rabobank, with larger Fintech-services such as Android Pay, Apple Pay and Pay from Samsung not yet being released in the Netherlands.
